BRISTOL, TN (WJHL) -

Harry Cannon is charged in a 44-count federal indictment.

The 420 Emporium owner faces charges including: conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute Schedule I controlled substances and Schedule I controlled substance analogues; distribution and possession with intent to distribute Schedule I controlled substances and Schedule I controlled substance analogues; and possession of one or more firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

Bristol, TN Police say this arrest comes after a long-term investigation involving synthetic drugs, commonly referred to as "bath salts" or "spice".

According to a federal indictment in Greeneville, Cannon knowingly and intentionally possessed synthetic drugs for the past 2 1/2 years with the intent to distribute them.

The indictment alleges the synthetic drug charges covers from between February 2011 to October 8 of this year.

Cannon's first court appearance was scheduled for Thursday in United States District Court in Greeneville.

Investigators say the case is on-going and other defendants could be identified or charged.

Previous story from Oct 9, 2013:

"Closed for repair", that's what a sign in front of 420 Emporium read Wednesday afternoon.

420 Emporium is a smoke shop off Volunteer Parkway in Bristol, Tennessee.

Police told us early Wednesday afternoon the owner, Harry Cannon, was arrested on several federal charges.

Because this is a federal case Cannon was taken to the Washington County, Tennessee Detention Center.

District Attorney Barry Stabus said the indictments in this case are sealed.

He expects them to be unsealed Thursday, at that point we will know more about the allegations against Cannon.
