NC deputies shoot man who attacked them with arrow

LEICESTER, N.C. (AP) - Buncombe County deputies have shot and killed a man after he fired a hunting bow at them while they were trying to serve a warrant.

Sheriff Van Duncan says his deputies were approaching a home around 3 p.m. Wednesday to serve a warrant for failure to register as a sex offender when a man ran at them.

Duncan says deputies shot after the man fired a hunting bow at close range.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released, but Duncan says he was a registered sex offender in California and Washington State.

The deputies involved were not injured and are on paid leave during a State Bureau of Investigation inquiry.
