A Lenoir County teacher is facing charges of sexual activity with a student.

28-year-old Jennifer SinClair, a music teacher at South Lenoir High School, was arrested Thursday after a school resource officer was made aware of a possible sexual relationship between SinClair and an 18-year-old Student. Deputies say the information came from school administrators at South Lenoir.

“The school system acted quickly to investigate the rumors of this relationship," said Sheriff Chris Hill. "My officers ran with the information and obtained a formal confession from SinClair and were able to obtain an interview with the student, which corroborated the statement of SinClair. None of the acts are believed to have occurred at the school and the relationship appears to have been of a short duration.”

SinClair is charged with two counts of sexual activity with a student. She was given a $15,000 bond and was later released. She made her first court appearance Monday.

Lenoir County Schools spokesperson Lidia Guzman tells 9 On Your Side as of October 10, SinClair is no longer employed with Lenoir County Schools.
