Rand Paul endorses Brannon in US Senate race in NC

CARY, N.C. (AP) - Kentucky U.S. Sen. Rand Paul has endorsed Cary obstetrician Greg Brannon in the U.S. Senate race in North Carolina.

Brannon announced support from the national tea party favorite Wednesday. He's hoping it will give his Republican primary campaign a big boost after attention has largely tilted to GOP candidates Thom Tillis and the Rev. Mark Harris. Brannon also is behind Tillis in fundraising.

Paul is quoted in a news release saying Brannon is a true constitutional conservative who will join him in fighting against business as usual in Washington.

Brannon is counting on tea party support to win the Republican nomination in May and take on Democratic incumbent Kay Hagan next November.
