COP DOTS: It's DNA For Your Property

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. - A new partnership kicked off Thursday to put an end to personal property theft in the east.

COP DOTS or "DNA For Your Property" launched between Lowes Home Improvement and Greenville PD.

It's technology that allows you to mark your property with a special adhesive containing thousands of tiny microdots, each marked with a traceable identification number.

No 2 COP DOTS have the same identifier, making every user unique.

Each number is registered online by the owner and the COP DOTS database, which law enforcement can access.

When an electronic device reads the COP DOTS, it identifies the owner. That'll help get the stuff back to the victim, putting the robber behind bars.

Greenville PD is one of the first law enforcement agencies in North Carolina to use the technology.
