Custodian accused of making threats against Ayden Elementary School

GREENVILLE, N.C. - 9 On Your Side is following a developing story out of Pitt County.

Lawmen confirm a janitor at Ayden Elementary School was arrested by deputies with the Pitt County Sheriff's Office on Friday.

Deputies say 61-year-old Johnnie Cox, the head custodian, is accused of making threats about blowing up the school on Tuesday. The principal of the school reported the incident on Wednesday after an anonymous caller gave details of the threat.

Cox was jailed on a $3,000 secure bond. According to his personnel file, the district employed him in 1992 as a janitor and promoted him to head custodian in 1997.
