WARSAW, N.C. -

Duplin County Emergency Services responded to a call about an ammonia leak on NC Highway 117 around 12:40 this afternoon.

Director of Emergency Services Rob McDuffy says the leak started on the roof of Villari Foods in Warsaw around 12:30 p.m. The leak activated emergency plans for the business, and fire response teams responded to the scene.

The leak closed NC Highway 117 in front of Villari Foods until approximately 4:15 p.m. McDuffy says the leak is believed to have been a very small amount in a small pressurized line.

Hazmat teams are responding to the scene now, to ensure that it is a small leak, and to secure the scene.

McDuffy says no injuries were reported, and the emergency response system worked exactly the way it was supposed to.
