GREENVILLE, N.C. -

A Greenville man is behind bars tonight after police say he broke into a home, stole property, then took off into the woods.

Police responded to the scene at 98 Brookwood Dr. Apt F around 11:20 Friday night. They used a canine unit to track down 22-year-old Markevious Cherry in thick woods toward the Tar River.

Cherry is now in the Pitt County Detention Center, charged with first degree burglary, larceny and injury to personal property.

His bond is set at $200,000 and his first court appearance will be Monday morning.

Online records show Cherry has a previous criminal record with charges for misdemeanor breaking and entering, injury to personal property, communicating threats and simple assault.
