Man fell from biplane in Land O Lakes

Posted: Updated:
LAND O' LAKES, FL (WFLA) -

Two wing walkers were performing on a biplane when 62-year-old Mark Curto of Tampa fell to his death on Saturday afternoon according to Pasco County Sherriffs. They were performing at the “Festival of Flight” air show in Land O’ Lakes.

Curto's emergency parachute failed to deploy and he landed in a Wesley Chapel subdivision. He succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

A nearby 14-year-old says he was working on a Boy Scout project when he saw the plane, noticed some black smoke and then he saw the man fall. The boy says, he ran into the woods toward the man. When the boy reached the wing walker he was still alive, but passed shortly after. The boy reportedly gave the man his last rites.

The biplane landed safely at a Tampa Executive Airport.

Pasco County Sheriff’s office is investigating the incident and has notified the FAA and NTSB.
