AG's travels show willingness for NC governor bid

Posted: Updated:
GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper has been spending more time on the Democratic banquet circuit criticizing Republican policies and seeking to energize the party faithful.

His travels serve as a signal he's prepared to seek a bigger job. Cooper is leaving little to the imagination about his gubernatorial aspirations for 2016. He says he's planning for a bid without actually being in the race now.

This development comes as Republican Gov. Pat McCrory has been in office for only nine months. Republicans and McCrory's camp are harping on Cooper for running a quasi-campaign and criticizing laws he's tasked with defending in court.

Cooper tells The Associated Press he's got to start the planning process, especially since an outside group ran a TV commercial this fall promoting McCrory's policies.
