RALEIGH, N.C. -

The Raleigh-Cary area was named to Payscale's top 10 best cities for high-paying jobs in the United States, the city announced Thursday.

In a release, the City of Raleigh said the Capital city area was the only locale on the East Coast to make the list.

Payscale evaluated the 100 largest metropolitan statistical areas in the nation based on median pay adjusted to the area's cost of living; relative adequate supply of high-paying jobs; and the unemployment rate. Payscale defined high-paying jobs as managers, executives, software developers, engineers, lawyers, judges, doctors, surgeons and psychiatrists.

The top 10 on the list are:

  1. Salt Lake City
  2. San-Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, Calif.
  3. Houston-Sugarland-Baytown
  4. Austin-Round Rock, Texas
  5. Provo-Orem, Utah
  6. Ogden-Clearfield, Utah
  7. Raleigh-Cary
  8. Omaha-Council Bluffs, Nebraska-Iowa
  9. Des Moines-West Des Moines, Iowa
