New Hanover deputy resigns after DWI

WILMINGTON, N.C. - A New Hanover County Sheriff’s deputy  has resigned after he was charged with DWI on Thursday night.

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office charged Rudolph Howell after stopping him at a checking station on Highway 17.
 
Howell resigned before an internal investigation began.
 
Sheriff McMahon stated “I continue to stand firm on my position concerning alcohol related incidents”.

Howell was a nine year veteran with the Sheriff’s Office.
