CONETOE, NC -

Edgecombe County Sheriff Deputies arrested Christopher Deon Powell, 38, this morning.

At approximately 10:53 a.m., the Sheriff's Office received information that Powell was at a home in Conetoe. The sheriff says once at the scene, around 11:25 a.m., Powell was taken into custody without incident. He is being released into the US Marshal Service's custody.

On Friday, while Edgecombe County Sheriff's were investigating a break-in in Conetoe, they learned that Powell, of Washington DC, was also wanted by the US Marshal Service on federal charges. Powell had been spotted in the Conetoe area.

When he was spotted in Conetoe, it prompted a manhunt for him. Authorities canceled that Friday afternoon and asked all residents within a three mile radius to stay inside their homes. The area was placed under a "Code Red".

9 On Your Side dug up a 2004 article about Powell from the Washington Post. He's accused of hitting and killing a 5-year-old boy while he was riding his motorcycle. Witnesses say Powell walked away from the scene. Another 4-year-old boy was critically injured in the accident. According to the Washington Post, D.C. police had warrants out for Powell's arrest charging him with second degree murder. It's unclear if he was ever convicted on those charges.
