Food stamp cuts to affect 47 million

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON - Millions of Americans on food stamps will see a cut in benefits.

The cuts will affect the 47 million estimated to use food stamp benefits starting Friday.

North Carolina has about 800,000.

The benefits started as part of President George W. Bush's stimulus plan.

Congress could step in and extend the benefits level, but there hasn't been a big push.

The cuts range from as little as $11 to as much as $65 per month.

A family of 3 could lose $29 per month, a family of 5, $43.
