Utah town holds 5th Annual Giant Pumpkin Drop

Posted: Updated:
PLEASANT GROVE, UT - Chances are you've carved a pumpkin, but have you done anything like this before?

It's the great pumpkin drop, Charlie Brown - Utah style!

Families gathered at Hee Haw Farms in Pleasant Grove Saturday for the 5th Annual Giant Pumpkin Drop.

The competition rings in Halloween with pumpkin farmers bringing their biggest and their best to be smashed.

This year's champ is a two-time winner, with a pumpkin coming in at over 1,200 pounds.

"These pumpkins are over a thousand pounds. Our average is eight tons per day. Once a year we do it,” said Kyle Fox, organizer. “We've already crushed a couple cars, an outhouse, and pianos."

The annual event raises money for the March of Dimes charity, with ten cents of every pumpkin pound being donated.
