FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

Police say a Fayetteville man is facing new charges for trying to hide the gun that his 2-year-old daughter used to accidentally shoot herself.

Authorities said Wednesday 19-year-old Melvin Andre Clark Jr. was charged with resisting a police officer and failure to store a firearm.

Clark already faced charges of involuntary manslaughter and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

He's accused of leaving a loaded .22 semi-automatic pistol under the living room couch. Officers say Samarri Beauford found the gun while she was playing Oct. 19. The child was taken to the hospital, where she died. No one else in the home was injured.

Police found Clark's gun behind a neighboring home.

Clark was jailed on $50,000 bond, and it wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney.
