North Raleigh development could mean large influx of students

RALEIGH, N.C. -

The Wake County Public School System could see a large influx of students in one section of North Raleigh.

More than 2,200 homes could be on the way to a plot of land located near Interstate-540 and Route 401. The school system will have to absorb many of the children moving into this area after tax payers approved a $810 million school bond last month.

"These were expected.  This was actually a development that we expected.  We have it in our projections.  We actually already acquired an elementary school, River Bend elementary school in that area," said Joe Desormeaux, superintendent of facilities for Wake County Public School System.

The school system is expecting 20,000 more students by 2018.
