Vandals target mailboxes in one Pitt County community

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. -

A community in Pitt County is trying to find out who vandalized their mailboxes.

On Thursday, people who live along Black Jack Simpson Road say they noticed more than 15 damaged mailboxes. Jeff Wall is a construction worker who had his mailbox damaged. He says he takes pride in his specialty mailbox and was frustrated when he found out someone damaged it.

“It hurts my feelings and it hurts my heart to know that we got people that would do such mess as this," said Wall.

Wall says after this last incident he did file a report with Pitt County Sheriff’s Office. He says it is unlikely the person or people responsible will be caught unless someone caught them on camera or comes forward.

"I guarantee the folks that did this have no real recognition in their minds of what they have done, and how much it has cost all the different ones," said Wall.

People in the community say the vandals even damaged a church mailbox and took down a stop sign. The stop sign has since been replaced.

Vandalizing a mailbox is considered a felony and can result in a $250,000 fine or up to three years in prison per offense.
