Bicyclist injured in New Bern assault

NEW BERN, N.C. - Police are investigating a Tuesday night assault in New Bern.

It happened in the area of High School Drive and Simmons Street just after 9 p.m.

Officers tell 9 On Your Side the victim was riding a bike, perhaps in the travel lane, when an unidentified female driving a white SUV with a male passenger, about 30 years old, got out of the vehicle and started shouting and cursing at the bicyclist. As the victim attempted to ride away, she threw a liquor bottle at him, striking him in the face causing multiple lacerations requiring medical treatment.

The victim was transported by EMS for medical care.
