Attempted robbery results in early school dismissal

Posted: Updated:
NEW BERN, N.C. - An attempted robbery in New Bern puts an elementary school on lockdown. The school then sent students home early.

Lt. Ronda Allen of the New Bern Police Department tells 9 On Your Side a man with a gun robbed a Fed Ex driver at about 10:15 a.m. Friday.

As a precaution, J.T. Barber Elementary School went on lockdown. At no point was there a known threat to the students, the lockdown was only a safety measure. Then at noon, the school dismissed students early.

Allen says nobody was injured during this situation. Police are still searching for the robbery suspect.
