Forum to target role of railroad in North Carolina

Posted: Updated:

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The N.C. Department of Transportation's Rail Division is planning to take a look at how rail transportation will help with the state's economy, industry and quality of life.

A Rail Planning Forum is scheduled for Tuesday at the Friday Center in Chapel Hill.

The forum also will give rail stakeholders from throughout North Carolina the opportunity to provide input for the development of the Comprehensive Statewide Rail Plan and educate those attending on the new "Strategic Transportation Investments" initiative and other issues.

Transportation Secretary Tony Tata will join state Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler, Assistant Commerce Secretary Patricia Mitchell, and Tony Almeida, senior advisor to Gov. Pat McCrory on Jobs and the Economy, for a round table discussion.
