GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) - Akeem Richmond scored 19 points and hit the go-ahead free throw to lift East Carolina over UNC Greensboro 85-84 Tuesday night.

The Pirates (2-0) opened the second half with a 23-11 run capped off by a three point play by Richmond to give East Carolina the lead after trailing by ten at half.

UNC Greensboro (1-1) increased their lead to six with 1:05 remaining, but East Carolina chipped back into the deficit with a Brandan Stith dunk and three free throws by Prince Williams to pull the Pirates within two.

Following a Kyle Cain layup, Caleb White was fouled corralling an offensive rebound and hit both free throws with 12 seconds left.
