National Signing Day reaches eastern North Carolina

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. -

It's the day they've been practicing and playing for their entire life, it's national signing day. Perhaps the biggest pen to paper move in eastern North Carolina was in Vanceboro where standout basketball player Jamie Cherry finally made it official, she's going to be a Tar Heel.

"I've always, ever since I came out of the womb, I've always been a Tar Heel fan, "said Cherry. "Ever since I've been watching them play I've modeled players on the team and just being able to work so hard and see Carolina come to my house and offer me a scholarship was awesome."

Elsewhere the baseball pipeline from Rose to ECU continues. Bailey Sugg and Mason Keen will play ball at Clark-Leclair.

"This is one of the best days of my life and I can't wait to put on the East Carolina Pirates uniform and I can't wait to play for Billy Godwin, " said Sugg.

"I've always gone to each game and I really look forward to being out there with Coach Godwin and all the rest of the coaches," said Keen.

Last but not least we stopped by DH Conley. Kori Adams led the Vikings to back-to-back regional finals in volleyball and has pledged her future to Wingate.

"The strong academics were a big deal and their volleyball team is very successful," said Adams.

A special day for a special group of athletes. For more from those interviews check out 9 on Your Side at 11!

I would argue we live in one of the best places to cover football. At the high school level our teams always win state championships, then you get to see many of those players excel in college.
