FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

A man who died after he drove into a pond in Fayetteville was a father of six children, according to his coworkers.

Police say Timothy Edward Duncan, 36, of Fayetteville was traveling on Dunn Road near the M-J Soffe factory when he ran off the road. They say his 2010 Dodge Journey crossed the center line, crashed through the backstop fencing of a softball field and overturned in the retention pond.

The police received a call about the SUV in the pond at approximately 7:15 a.m. Thursday. Dunn Road between Soffe Drive and Ft. Worth Boulevard was closed Thursday morning as police investigated.

Angela Gardner with AAA Towing, which is just down Dunn Road, said Duncan had worked with the company for nine years. She said he was married with two daughters and four sons, ranging in age from about 12 to 19.

"He was a really good guy. He did everything to help people," Gardner said. "He was very respectful, nothing ever ugly came out of his mouth. If he was ever mean to anybody, I don't know anything about it. Family man - took very good care of his wife and his kids, worked hard every day."

Gardner said she believed Duncan drove into the pond late Wednesday night, but was not found until Thursday morning.
