Kinston community holds peace rally

On Saturday, a Kinston family said goodbye to a young man shot and killed in a car two weeks ago, James Arthur Franklin. After that fatal incident and another shooting the same day, the community is coming together to try and stop the violence with a peace rally.

"The young man that was murdered was not involved in crime, so we just want to hopefully touch someone's heart out there to get involved," said event organizer Selena Wilson.

Wilson and a dozen people held the peace rally at Southeast Elementary School. Wilson says the goal of the rally is to bring awareness to the community that there are other options than to resort to violence.

Tavarius Moore attended Saturday’s rally to support the peace cause in the neighborhood.

"We need for more people to stand up and actually do the right thing," said Moore.

I just think it’s time that we just pull together as families and put a stop to this,” said Wilson.

Event organizers hope to hold more rallies in the future.
