ECU to continue play in NIT at Rhode Island against McNeese State, UNC-Asheville

GREENVILLE, N.C. -

GREENVILLE, N.C – East Carolina will continue play in the NIT Season Tip-Off against McNeese State at the Ryan Center on the campus of the University of Rhode Island Monday at 5 p.m. The Pirates will then face UNC Asheville Tuesday at 5 p.m. 

It'll be the Pirates' first-ever meeting with the Cowboys (2-3) and it's first game against the Bulldogs (1-4) since 1997.

ECU, which entered the NIT Season Tip-Off as the No. 7 seed, opened the tournament with a 76-74 win over Norfolk State Monday night before falling to No. 6 Duke, 83-74, at Cameron Indoor Stadium Tuesday. Senior Akeem Richmond and junior Paris Roberts-Campbell each scored double figures in both games. The duo ranks first and second on the team in scoring.

The Cowboys are coming off an 81-72 win over Stillman on Tuesday that was keyed by Craig McFerrin's 20 points and 13 rebounds. Georgia State took down McNeese, 96-70, in Tuscaloosa Monday.

UNC Asheville, who bracketed alongside ECU in the Nit Tip-Off East Region, lost its opening round game to the Blue Devils, 91-55, and fell two points short against Norfolk State, 80-78.
