Battling Brewers: A competition among 3 local, home brewers

KINSTON, N.C. - Brewing beer in the east is a thriving business.

Last month, 9 On Your Side talked to several breweries here in the east to learn what they do every day.

Now, some East Carolina culinary students are working with one of those breweries to produce a television show.

Not only are there production students working on the reality TV show, but culinary students and aspiring brewmasters are all working on the same project.

Battling Brewers is an exciting competition among 3 local, home brewers. The goal is to see who can make the best beer in a limited amount of time. Teaming up with the brewers are three culinary students. Each must create a dish that best compliments the beer the brewer has decided to make. The last element is the production. Students in ECU's cinematic arts and media production program are directing the show.

“It's really good to be able to get hands on and get out of the classroom because starting at a book is only fun for so long,” said Corey Ramos, ECU Senior.

“So, we have chefs, brewers judges coming together on this finale to ultimately see who has the best beer and food,” said Alison Pulley, Host/Producer.
