Military members came out to the grand opening of the Christmas House Friday, continuing a 40-year tradition at Fort Gordon.
On December 3rd and 4th, selected military families can pick up a limited amount of gifts for their children.
Project Officer Suzanne Crosby say tens of thousand of dollars are raised through fundraisers to help service members in need.
"It's not just about having a nice Christmas for the service members hwo deserve it and who need it. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the volunteers. There are so many volunteers that make this work. And it has been such a joy to see some of thse people get stretched beynd what they thought they could do. And just the joy of being with people and having a good time when you come together for a common purpose."
Crosby says the group takes donations all year. They started the summer with $47,000 and have added $25,000 since then.
