DURHAM, N.C. -

Students at North Carolina Central University are raising concerns campus police might have made a mistake trying to figure out who fired off gunshots Thursday afternoon outside the science building.  The incident happened around 2:40 P.M.  No one was hurt, but the campus was put on lockdown for about a half hour.

Within a few hours of that shooting, police named a suspect, 21-year-old Crandall Ingram.  Ingram is a former student who was banned from campus, but fast forward less than 24 hours and he's no longer a suspect, just a person of interest.

"That just makes no sense," NCCU student Phillip Rawls said.

"We were in the cafeteria, and they told us the lockdown was lifted," NCCU student Tiana Taylor said, "but they didn't know if they had the real suspect or not, so they didn't know if the gunman was still out."

On Friday, NCCU Police declined WNCN's requests for an interview, but a spokesperson said Thursday's lockdown was lifted because the suspect's vehicle could be seen fleeing campus.  Police also tell WNCN more individuals are wanted for questioning.  If you have any information that could help investigators, contact police.
