Agreement limits Iran's nuclear program

WASHINGTON, D.C. -

A major deal has been reached over Iran's nuclear program.

President Obama announced the historic agreement, that would limit the program.

"These are substantial limitations that keep iran from building a nuclear weapon – simply put they cut off Iran’s most likely paths to a bomb,” said President Obama in a Saturday evening address.

The deal was made in Switzerland. Secretary of State John Kerry and diplomats from several countries negotiated with Iranian leader throughout the nit, hammering out all the final details.

Early Sunday morning in Geneva, Iran's Foreign Minister Tweeted, "We have reached an agreement." In that agreement, Iran will temporarily limit it's nuclear program. In exchange, nations will ease harsh sanctions that have damaged Iran's economy.

"We will halt new sanctions and we will provide Iran a portion of the revenue they have been denied through sanctions,” said President Obama.

Iran has claimed it only wants to enrich uranium for nuclear power. If this initial deal holds, there will be final stage negotiations down the road to ensure Iran doesn't built a nuclear weapon.
