The trash truck coming up and down the block...it's a site Augusta trash customers only see one day a week now.
"I see trash cans all the time with the lids up. It's all piled in there, you can't get it all in one week, said Ben McClain.
"We're losing from two days a week to one day a week, and my suspicion is in the process of losing that you're still going to sneak that rate hike," said Leonard Eubanks, Sr.
Not really sneaking it...the Augusta Landfill's budget proposal for 2014 is for a 4% percent increase in the garbage fee. For most customers, that would be a $12 to $13 dollar hike in what the pay for trash pickup for next year.
"At least you knew when they came twice a week, they were going to pick it up. As far as a four percent [increase], it doesn't seem fair," said Travis Lane.
Augusta Commissioners did approve the new contract last year that allows for a fee increase.
"When the new contract came into play, we didn't have an increas. However, talking about one being in 2014, going into 2015, that's something the Commission is going to have to talk about and make decision," says Mayor Pro-Tem Corey Johnson.
Customers have decided, one day a week pickup doesn't add up to a four percent fee increase.
"Definitely not, nobody wants to be paying more, because it will never come back down," says McClain.
"We had better service for less. Now, we're getting less service, so what I'm doing is I'm taking this advantage, I'm encouraging the taxpayers of Richmond County...call your Commissioners and say no way," said Eubanks.
The Landfill is also proposing a $3 a month street sweeping fee, and equalizing all garbage fees across Augusta.
Residents of the old city pay about $200 less, but their garbage pickup is subsidized by higher property taxes.
Commissioners have the power to reject or accept any and all proposals.
