Folks in New Bern found a special surprise as they were walking around on Friday: random pieces of free art.
A group of local artists gave away hundreds of paintings, sculptures, jewelry, and more by placing them all over downtown.
They hid the artwork in plain sight so anyone could find it.
The group, Community Artist Will (CAW) , says it's a random act of artistic kindness to thank people for shopping at small businesses on Black Friday.
CAW is a group that supports budding artists in the process of becoming a nonprofit, said artist Michaelé Rose Watson, who is involved with the group.
One New Bern visitor says she found a painting hanging in a tree.
"I went to go explore, and it has a free tag on it, so I am assuming it's a holiday scavenger hunt of the like," said Kimberly Wilson of Richmond, VA. "I think it's a really nice gesture. Something really interesting to do in the community."
Organizers say placing art in random places is part of a growing movement across the country.
