Ahoskie man jailed for desecrating 92 gravesites

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. - An Ahoskie man is behind bars, accused of desecrating gravesites.

Greenville police say they took 32 year old Derrick Dunlow in custody at the Golden Corral on Greenville Blvd. on Sunday.

Dunlow had outstanding warrants in Hertford County for 92 counts of disturbing gravesites.  It’s believed that Dunlow was stealing brass vases and other brass ornaments from a cemetery and then turning around and selling the brass for scrap metal.

He was placed in the Pitt County Detention Center on $28,000 secured bond.

Officers say Dunlow has prior arrests for larceny, damage to property, various drug offenses, felony conspiracy, obtaining property by false pretense, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

They also say that disturbing or desecrating gravesites is a class I felony.
