Fire crews responded to a report of a fire at Northside High School on Monday.

It happened around 12:45 p.m.

“The small fire was contained early by firefighters with extinguishers” said Chief Spencer Lee, Deputy Chief of Fire Operations with the Jacksonville Fire Department.  “The fire was limited to a clothes dryer in the locker room.”

Officials say that the building was evacuated as a safety precaution. Students and staff were assembled outside on the grounds as they waited for smoke to clear the building.

A total of seven fire units responded.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
