If you work for the city of Augusta, should you have to live there?
Commissioner Marion Williams thinks so. He says, if you're getting paid by city tax dollars, you should be a city taxpayer. Williams would like to see a new ordinance requiring Augusta's department directors to be city residents.
"It was a requirement, at one time, and that changed for whatever reason. Now, I'm not saying that people living outside the county have to move back into the county, but the new people coming...we have to put something in place. We need to stop this madness, it's getting crazy because it's going to get worse and worse and worse. If the county isn't good enough for you to live in, you shouldn't draw a paycheck out of the county," says Williams.
Commissioners are scheduled to discuss the proposal at Tuesday's meeting.
