Global Spectrum, the company that operates the James Brown Arena and the Bell Auditorium, named Chris Bird, a 10-year Global Spectrum employee, as General Manager of the two venues. Bird most recently served the company at Global Spectrum-managed Bicentennial Center in Salina, Kansas.
"We are confident that Chris's experience and seasoned history with Global Spectrum will be the right fit for us here in Augusta," said Cedric Johnson, Augusta-Richmond County Coliseum Authority Chairman. "We have been quite impressed with Global Spectrum since day one and we are excited for the new possibilities with Chris."
Bird will be relocating to the Augusta area very soon and says, "The opportunity to build on Global Spectrum and Augusta's success the last five years and grow relationships is what I look forward to the most."
Bird, a graduate from the University of South Carolina, started his career with Global Spectrum as a Changeover Supervisor at the Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, South Carolina. After 2 years, he moved on to Trenton, New Jersey at the Sovereign Bank Arena and the Sun National Bank Center where he spent 5 years obtaining more experience in events and operations. In 2010, he became Assistant General Manager of the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, PA. Most recently, Chris has been serving as General Manager of the Bicentennial Center in Salina, Kansas where he cut the fiscal budget loss nearly in half in his first ten months. Chris looks forward to moving back to the southeast near his family.
