Augusta, GA -

Swamps may seem like a quiet place to fish or take a nap, but one television production company is taking a deeper look at what mysteries happen beyond the water.

A crew of about 40 people were out at Phinizy Swamp Nature Park filming the first episode of the hit show "Swamp Murders" on Investigation Discovery. The producers tell me this park is the perfect place for the job.

Co-Executive Producer Ashley Crary describes the setting of Phinizy Swamp Nature Park as "beautifully creepy."

Crary said it was an easy pick because the park is full of colorful wildlife, alligators, snakes, and birds.

"The swamp is a perfect backdrop for creepy, scary, horrifying, true crime mysteries," said Crary

The production company, based in Atlanta, looked for surroundings that would speak to the scary, real-life mysteries on their show.

"These are all true crime, based on real events, real stories. They are great mysteries, great who-done-its, and they all involve a swamp one way or another whether it's where the body was dumped, where the murder took place," said Crary.

Although the crews experience a lot of fun and exciting times re-creating these stories, the man power that goes in is no joke.

"It's probably a good three months total from start to finish," said Crary.

Crary said the crews work up to 12 hour days on just re-creating the scenes.

"This isn't the interviews where we interview the actual people involved, it's not the edit time, it's not the time it takes to write these scripts, it's not the time it takes to research these stories," said Crary.

But at the end of the day, she said it's all worth it.

"We have a good time, and we are committed to making the best episodes ever for Season 2," said Crary.

There will be 10 episodes included in Season 2 of Swamp Murders, which is set to premier in Summer of 2014.
