Robeson County officials investigate several rape cases, one suspect identified

Posted: Updated:

Robeson County Sheriff Ken Sealey confirms his office is investigating four rapes in Parkton.

Parkton is just west of I-95 in the northern part of the county.

The Sheriff says all the rapes happened within a week, and his office has identified a suspect as Alfonso Chacon, 31, from Parkton. He's being held on charges of rape, kidnapping, robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy and assault.

Officials say there have been a series of assaults and deputies do believe all the cases are connected. They do not believe, however, that the victims were chosen at random.

The first assault happened November 28.  The sheriff's office received a report from a 21-year-old female who said she had been sexually assaulted.

Then on December 5, the sheriff's office received reports of a 19-year-old female, 28-year-old female and a 32-year-old male who had been kidnapped.  The girls said they had been robbed and sexually assaulted.

Two days later a police report came in from a 37-year-old female, who said she had been sexually assaulted and a 55-year-old male who said he had been severely beaten by the suspects.

Finally on December 11, deputies received a report of a 23-year-old female and 17-year-old female who said they had been sexually assaulted.

The females all report they had been targeted on the social media network website known as backpage.com.  Ladies were notified by backpage.com to respond to Lariat Court and then taken to a wooded area where these assaults occurred, according to the sheriff's office.

Chacon was placed in the Robeson County Detention Center and placed under a $500,000.00 bond where he remains at this time.
