TOPSAIL ISLAND, NC - The cause of a house fire on Topsail Island is under investigation.

It happened at 114 Oceanview Lane in North Topsail Beach around 8:23 p.m.

It took firefighters about an hour and thirty minutes to get the fire under control. However, crews from the North Topsail Beach Fire Department remained on scene until 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

The home was determined to be a total loss.

The Jacksonville Daily News reports the 9 bedroom home was worth more than $650,000. The house stood less than a mile from the North Topsail Beach Town Hall.

There was also minor damage to one of the adjacent houses; scorched siding and broken windows.

Topsail Island Treasures sent 9 On Your Side several pictures of the fire.

The owner, Kim Nelson says the flames lit up the sky. She believes no one was inside at the time.
