New 2014 annual passes for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers day use recreation areas are now available for purchase at the Corps' Savannah District's three dam and lake projects on the upper Savannah River—Hartwell Lake, Richard B. Russell Lake, and J. Strom Thurmond Lake.

The annual pass costs $30 and is valid for 12 months from date of purchase. Passes can be purchased at the following locations:

  • J. Strom Thurmond Lake Visitor Center, 510 Clarks Hill Highway, Clarks Hill, South Carolina
  • Hartwell Lake Visitor Center, 5625 Anderson Highway, Hartwell, Georgia (or at any Corps campground office at Hartwell Lake)
  • Richard B. Russell Lake Visitor Center, 4144 Russell Dam Drive, Elberton, Georgia

Alternative locations for purchasing passes near J. Strom Thurmond Lake include:

  • Augusta Marine, 4250 Belair Frontage Road, Augusta, Georgia
  • Sportsman's Corner, E Martintown Road, North Augusta, South Carolina
  • Cliatt's Crossing, 3850 Augusta Highway, Lincolnton, Georgia

Annual passes sold in 2014 will have a "2015" expiration date sticker. Visitors should hang the pass from the vehicle's rear view mirror so the expiration date on the decal is visible from the windshield. Open vehicles such as motorcycles or jeeps should display the decal directly on the rear view mirror, or some other easily visible location on the vehicle.

Corps day use areas typically include boat launch ramps, designated swimming beaches, and picnic areas. The annual day use pass does not cover camping fees, picnic shelter group reservations, and other fees. The pass can be used at any Corps-operated day use recreation area throughout the nation.
