GREENVILLE, N.C. -

East Carolina senior Drew Reynolds has been named Preseason First-Team All-American as a utility player by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) the organization announced Wednesday afternoon.

The Pirates top utility player the last two season, Reynolds earned Louisville Slugger Second-Team All-America and First-Team All-Conference USA honors a year ago after leading ECU with a .322 average and 68 hits, while ranking second with 13 doubles and fourth with 30 runs scored.

On the mound the Cherryville, N.C. native posted a 3-2 record with a 2.92 ERA and recorded a league and team-best 14 saves, which also ranked 14th nationally.

In three seasons with the Pirates, Reynolds owns a .313 average (147-for-470) with three home runs, 47 RBI, 21 doubles and 65 RBI. After posting a career-best 14 saves in 2013, he moved into sole possession of second place on the school's all-time saves list and is three away from breaking Seth Simmons (2008-11) record, which stands at 26.

He was 2013 C-USA All-Tournament Team selection and is a two-time C-USA Player-of-the-Week honoree, taking home hitting accolades on Mar. 13, 2012 and pitching honors on Apr. 15, 2013. In the classroom, Reynolds is a two-time C-USA All-Academic selection and three-time C-USA Honor Roll member.

Last year, Reynolds became the sixth All-America selection under head coach Billy Godwin and the first since Kyle Roller and Ryan Wood in 2009.

Reynolds and the Pirates will open the 2014 season on Friday, Feb. 14 when they play host to James Madison at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. (EST).
