Beaufort County Schools: No outbreak of scabies

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON, N.C. - The Beaufort County School system says it is not dealing with an outbreak of scabies.

The school system says the widespread rumor has been circulating through several school communities via social media and word of mouth.

Scabies is an itchy skin condition caused by tiny mites usually transmitted through direct contact.

Beaufort County Schools say it has had one confirmed case. That case was addressed immediately. The school system says all precautions have been taken to make sure no students or staff are at risk, adding that they were contacted Wednesday about the matter.
