RAEFORD, N.C. -

A Raeford woman was arrested Thursday after she tried to dupe local businesses into thinking she was raising money for the local Salvation Army.

Annie Francis King, 51, wore a Salvation Army apron, rang a bell and accepted donations in a box wrapped in gift wrapping.

She went from business to business on Main Street and collected almost $20 in change and small bills.

She was arrested for obtaining property by false pretenses when police discovered she was getting the money for herself, not the Salvation Army.

King bonded out of jail Thursday night, but failed to appear in court Friday morning.
