Suspect apprehended in Vanceboro Dollar General robbery

VANCEBORO, N.C. - Vanceboro police say your tips helped lead them to the man who robbed a Dollar General store days before Christmas.

They arrested 23-year-old Demetrius Woods overnight.

Police Chief James Jenkins says Woods admitted to the crime in a written statement.

Police released surveillance video shortly after the December 20th robbery of the Dollar General off Highway 43. They say he used a handgun and box cutter to rob the store.

Policy say his distinct walk helped them track him down.

Woods is in the Craven County Jail under a $25,000 bond.

He made his first court appearance Tuesday morning.

Deputies in Craven county, along with Vanceboro Police are investigating an armed robbery in Vanceboro.

The robbery happend around 6:30 Friday night at the store on Highway 43. Police Chief James Jenkins tells 9 On Your Side a man walked into the store with a box cutter and gun hidden in a plastic bag.  He robbed a cashier and made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

The store had customers inside at the time.   No one was injured.

Chief Jenkins describes him as a black man with a "pigeon-toed" or unusual walk.  He got away on foot.  K-9 officers lost his scent a little while later.
