NEW INFO: Robersonville man arrested in Martin County shooting

ROBERSONVILLE, N.C. - A Robersonville man was arrested Thursday for a December shooting.

Deputies with the Martin County Sheriff's Office say 20 year old Shelton Ray Staton, Jr. is charged with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and Attempted First Degree Murder. He was taken into custody Thursday and is in jail under a $500,000 bond.

The shooting happened just before 6 o'clock December 21 on U.S. 64 Alternate just east of Robersonville.

Deputies tell 9 On Your Side 30-year-old Jihbram Rubio was walking along the highway when a he was approached by Staton, who's accused of shooting the victim multiple times before he fled the scene.

Rubio was taken to Martin General Hospital and later transferred to Vidant Medical Center. Deputies said at the time the victim was able to call 911 after being shot.
