Man dies after being shot by Greenville police

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. -

A man has died after being shot by Greenville police officers earlier this week.

The police department said 24-year-old James Lewis Brown died at Vidant Medical Center.

Police say Brown was shot Sunday after he pointed a gun at officers.

Three officers have been placed on administrative leave while the shooting is reviewed by the State Bureau of Investigation.

Police were called Sunday night to a report of a man who had threatened to kill himself.

The department said Brown pointed a gun at officers as they tried to check on him and the officers fired because they feared for their safety.

The names of the officers have not been released.
