We've checked in with some of the hospitals in our area to meet the first babies of the new year.
Noelle Gray Wooldridge was born at Virginia Baptist in Lynchburg at 1:20 a.m. She measures 6 pounds, 15 ounces and is 19.5 inches long. The proud parents are Jordan and Jeremy Wooldridge.
At Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital the first baby born was Seth O'Neal Coffey, 7 pounds, 8 ounces and 21 inches long.
"He's a special baby. he's beautiful, handsome. We asked God for a son and he blessed us with a son," said Smitha Coffey, his mother.
Seth was born at 3:37 a.m. Parents, Smitha and Jeff drove from Lexington and he was born less than an hour after they arrived.
"We didn't expect it to happen," said Smitha who was due next week.
The first baby born at LewisGale Medical Center in Salem was born at 8:15 a.m. to Amber Sanders and Derek Ruben. They had a little baby boy Gavin Nicholas Ruben, 8 pounds, 6.5 ounces and 21 inches long.
"It's exciting. It feels good. All the pain went away once he was in my arms," said Sanders. "I can't even explain it. I can't believe he's mine. He's so cute I'm excited. It feels good to be a mommy."
