FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

A charity that helps veterans in Fayetteville is working to expand its programs, but it needs a little help.

"Veterans Empowering Veterans" gives homeless and low-income veterans a range of assistance, but the main focus is job training.

Founder and CEO Renee Elders said someone has donated a house for the organization, but the house needs about $75,000 in renovations. So the organization is working to get enough donations to do the renovations and move in by the summer of 2015.

Elder said that will mean no longer worrying about a lease at their current location.

"The payment is quite large. It would help us to alleviate that, and we can put that back into the program to help more veterans," Elder explained.

Elder is also collecting donations of construction materials, and she is hoping some contractors will donate their construction skills.

The office for Veterans Empowering Veterans is at 614 Person Street, Fayetteville, NC  28301. Anyone interested in helping the organization can call (910) 223-3213 or (910) 237-4257.
