Retired SSU Professor to Speak at MLK Jr. Observance


Ja A. Jahannes, Ph.D., a behavioral neuroscientist, writer, spoken word artist, composer, psychologist and educator, will be the guest speaker at Savannah State University's (SSU) annual Martin Luther King Jr. Observance.

Jahannes, a retired SSU professor of behavior analysis, is a frequent writer, columnist, and contributing editor for numerous national and international publications. He has also written and produced several plays and novels as well as other works including lyrics for more than 100 songs and directed many theatre and performance productions, touring in the United States and abroad.

A BMI publisher and writer, Jahannes has lectured in Africa, Asia, South America, the Caribbean, the Middle East and Europe.

SSU's annual MLK Observance will take place Thursday, Jan. 16, at 7 p.m. in the King-Frazier Student Center ballroom. Immediately following the program, the SSU Delta Eta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., will honor the life of one of the fraternity's most distinguished members during an annual candlelight vigil that will begin on the front steps of the student center. Both events are free and open to the public.
