Taylor County couple hopes medical marijuana will help with daughter's seizures

TAYLOR COUNTY, Ga. -

Families across the state of Georgia are coming together to push for the legalization of medical marijuana. A Taylor County family is hoping this state will join 20 others...so they can help their daughter.

Wesley and Prissy Rowe live in Butler, Georgia and have a 14 year old daughter with a severe condition. They say they'll do everything they can to get their daughter help.

"I'm not just fighting for my kid. I'm fighting for every person who needs it," said Prissy.

The Rowe family wants their daughter, Ashleigh, to be able to live a normal life. The 14 year old suffers from Lennox- Gastuat syndrome which causes extreme seizures, up to 10 a day for the young girl. She didn't walk until she was 7 years old and still can't speak. Ashleigh has had numerous surgeries. They have her on a special diet. She also takes several pills each and every day, but her mother, Prissy, says nothing has worked.

"You're talking to one of the most anti-drug people there is. I never really thought I'd be pushing for this, but looking at the studies and looking at the evidence and seeing results, I don't see how you can justify not passing it," said Rowe.

The family has even considered a move to Colorado to get treatment for their daughter. Prissy says there are misconceptions about what they want for Ashleigh. She says it's a form of marijuana that's high in CBD which she says helps with the seizures and low in THC which is the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana.

"It's not a joint. Kids aren't getting high. It's an oil. I can't find any problem with it," said Rowe.

For Prissy, she wants to get to know her daughter and hear her first words.

This family is just one of many who have joined an active group advocating for the legalization of medical marijuana.

If you're interested in helping the family financially in their move to Colorado you can donate at http://www.gofundme.com/All-4-Ashleigh or at Ameris Bank in Butler. It's at 97 South Broad St. Butler, Georgia 31006. The bank's number is 478-862-3062.
